2026 CDK Dealership Workplace Study: Satisfaction Remains High

Employee expectations, economic pressures and evolving career priorities — these all remain factors impacting automotive dealership staffs. Now in its third year, the 2026 CDK Dealership Workplace Study explores where these driving forces sit when it comes to satisfaction, motivation and retention across the dealership workforce. While four out of five employees report being satisfied in their roles, the research uncovers important differences among employee groups, particularly those with one-to-three years of experience, who emerge as the least satisfied and are at potential risk of leaving the industry.
Our study also examines the factors shaping the day-to-day employee experience. From stress caused by economic uncertainty and work/life balance concerns to changing perceptions around compensation, benefits and career growth, the findings reveal where dealerships are making progress and where challenges remain. Encouragingly, motivation levels remain high, confidence in dealership direction has improved, and employees continue to cite strong workplace relationships as a key driver of satisfaction.
