3 Ways Streamlining F&I Processes Boost Your Bottom Line

According to CDK’s 2026 Friction Points Study, nearly three quarters (72%) of car dealer F&I Offices use four or more software solutions to complete a deal. In theory, these tools help dealerships work more efficiently, collaborate across departments, make data-informed decisions, and automate repetitive tasks. But in practice, these systems can sometimes add friction instead of reducing it. This is especially true in the F&I Office.
Dealers can save time and money during the F&I process if they eliminate system hopping — moving between multiple platforms to complete a single task — and these are the top three benefits:
1. Improved F&I Workflow Efficiency
Disruptions in your workflow, whether expected or unexpected, create inefficiencies. eContracting, in particular, is one area where system hopping slows things down. Dealers often utilize one system for their CRM and DMS, and another for working with lenders to complete financing. As a result, F&I Managers usually spend time manually uploading or double-checking transferred deal jackets instead of focusing on compliance or explaining additional offers to customers. Additionally, deals often change while in progress, and with multiple deal jackets in the queue, dealers have to ensure the correct version moves through both systems.
A fully integrated software suite, where CRM, DMS and financial tools communicate seamlessly, helps minimize disruptions in the workflow and eliminates the need for manual reentry or verification. With fewer systems to navigate, F&I Managers can shift their focus back to customers and offer additional products or services.
2. Lower Margin of Error
While there’s been improvement over the years, 17% of salespeople said rekeying information is a major frustration, and one out of four customers said they had to reenter information once they got to the dealership after starting the process online. When customers had to rekey information, they gave dealerships a lower Net Promoter Score (NPS).
Manual data entry also introduces errors, which can have huge ramifications for the dealer. If dealers catch an error during the F&I process, the F&I Manager may have to rebuild the deal jacket. In the worst cases, if they catch it after the customer leaves, the dealership will have to ask them to re-sign the paperwork digitally or ask them to return to the dealership. Either way, the customer may question the dealership and their purchase, and a mishap like this gives them the opportunity to back out of the deal.
Integrated tools reduce the need to manually rekey information. With the ability to sync data across platforms, from the customer's online journey to the dealership, F&I Managers can reduce mistakes and save time. Automation ensures accuracy, too, and will reduce the number of deals derailed by avoidable errors.
3. Less Car-Buyer Frustration
Missing information from the deal a salesperson pushes to F&I is the F&I Manager’s number one pain point this year. But the lack of full systems integration remains a significant frustration for F&I Managers, Sales Representatives and Sales Managers alike. But it’s not just your employees who feel frustrated; your customers feel frustrated too. To mask the duplicative efforts, some dealers have two signing ceremonies: one with a digital signature and another with a wet signature. But this can confuse customers. They're only buying one car, right? CDK data also showed that the more time customers spent at the dealership during the car-buying process, the lower the NPS and any duplicative effort adds to that time.
An integrated software suite can shorten dealership visits and make customers happier. Streamline signatures and paperwork to improve NPS and also build trust and retention. In fact, CDK’s 2026 State of F&I at the Dealership Study found that buyers who waited less than 10 minutes to meet with the F&I Manager gave dealerships significantly higher NPS, highlighting the business impact of reducing delays and friction throughout the process.
Ultimately, F&I software should work for you and not make more work for you. The best systems eliminate duplicative efforts through automation, minimize potential disruptions in the workflow, and give time back to your employees to focus on the customer.
