CDK Global and NAMAD Announce Second Annual "Fueling Careers" Scholarship Program
Program celebrates academics, leadership and civic involvement for college-bound minority students
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — March 14, 2018 — CDK Global, Inc. (Nasdaq: CDK), a leading enabler of end-to-end automotive commerce, together with the National Association of Minority Automobile Dealers (NAMAD), announced today that the second annual “Fueling Careers” scholarship program is now accepting applications. The scholarship program was established to support ethnic minority high school students of dealership employees who demonstrate financial need in their pursuit of a college education.
The "Fueling Careers" Scholarship Program, funded by CDK Global, will once again award up to five $10,000 scholarships to high school seniors entering an accredited college or university. NAMAD members will have the opportunity to select dealership employees to participate in the program.
"We are passionate about our continued support of ambitious young men and women who are committed to pursuing educational goals that will prepare them for meaningful and productive professional careers," said Tony Graham, chief customer experience officer, CDK Global. "NAMAD has been an ideal partner in helping us realize this program, enhance the lives of these students and their families, and enable them to make significant contributions to society.”
CDK Global introduced the program in 2017 with a three-year pledge that includes $150,000 in scholarship funding. The initiative demonstrates the shared commitment of CDK and NAMAD to help build strong leaders and a strong pipeline of minority talent for the next generation.
"We have a unique opportunity, and the important responsibility to help shape the future talent for the automotive industry," said Damon Lester, NAMAD president. "Supporting our minority dealer community has been a critical platform for both CDK Global and NAMAD, and through this scholarship program we are paving the way for remarkable students within our minority dealer body to succeed."
Five outstanding students were the recipients of the inaugural “Fueling Careers” scholarships in 2017. They are now proudly attending universities in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Michigan.
“With this scholarship, I am one step closer to fulfilling my dreams,” said Travis Render Jr., 2017 ‘Fueling Careers’ scholarship winner and business administration major at Georgia State University. “Watching my father work hard to support our family in the car dealership business has inspired me to maintain a high GPA, and continue my education in hopes that one day I may be able to manage my own dealership. I am incredibly grateful to CDK Global and NAMAD for this blessing.”
The scholarship application and award process will be managed by International Scholarship and Tuition Services, Inc. (ISTS), and award recipients will be selected based upon both academic merit and financial need. Dealership managers with high school students will complete an online application and must satisfy all eligibility requirements. Applications and program information can be found at https://aim.applyISTS.net/CDK/. Applications will be accepted through May 7, 2018. Scholarship winners will be honored at the NAMAD conference in Chicago this July.
