A Day in the Life of a UX Manager

By Steven Meyer

There are several advantages when it comes to being a part of the CDK Global User Experience (UX) team. One of the many advantages is getting the opportunity to attend, and speak at UX conferences on behalf of CDK. As a UX Manager, these types of initiatives help spread the word that we have a world-class UX team, and that being a part of our team gives designers and researchers a wide array of problems to solve.

I recently had the opportunity to speak at SoCal UX Camp at the University of California, Irvine. This is an annual UX conference that is held in different locations throughout Southern California. This year had the largest turnout with hundreds of UX designers, user researchers, product managers, and more!

This year, the keynote speaker was Jared Spool, the founder of a company named User Interface Engineering (UIE), and is an expert in the fields of usability, design, and research. His keynote topic was titled: “Insecure & Unintuitive: How We Need to Fix the UX of Security,” and was a great overview of our current usability issues when it comes to designing secure systems.

My topic this year was all about pixels. I covered items such as how we display color through sub-pixels, how we scale items across different device densities, how you can calculate if a device has a retina display, and much more! It was a great presentation that covered an in-depth topic, but was geared towards beginners and experts.

Overall, I had a great time. CDK supported me in both continuing my education by attending a conference, as well as giving me the opportunity to show the UX community that we are leaders in usability. I look forward to speaking at more conferences in the future, and I definitely look forward to speaking with UX designers and researchers that are interested in opportunities at CDK Global.
