SecurityFirst Works Hand-In-Hand with Clients to Provide Comprehensive Security Practices
HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL – June 22, 2015 – At a time when increased interconnectivity can mean increased risk, and seeing the need to accelerate efforts and expand the commitment to protecting the retail automotive industry and its customers, CDK Global, Inc. ("CDK Global" and “CDK”) (Nasdaq: CDK) has announced a broad-reaching program of security enhancements. CDK SecurityFirst is designed to raise awareness of ways to help the industry become more secure and bolster client and consumer security and engage clients as active participants in protecting the industry. CDK is taking a leadership position by launching the new SecurityFirst program to move the industry forward on the issue of security.
Given the prevalence of data breaches outside of automotive retail – coupled with the fact that automotive retail represents 3.5% of the U.S. GDP and over one million people work in vehicle dealerships, CDK felt a need to launch a program designed to evolve the industry and how all its stakeholders address security.
“We’ve always been security focused, but through SecurityFirst, we are working even more closely with our clients to deliver a new suite of tools, ongoing security enhancements, processes and education to drive better security practices in our industry,” said Bob Karp, President of Automotive Retail North America, CDK Global, Inc.
Building upon the security-related education, processes and tools that CDK has introduced over the years, SecurityFirst is designed to raise awareness about security and provide data-security related tools. The new SecurityFirst program encompasses:
- Industry Education, Awareness, and Dealership processes:
– Training, Educational Forums, Advisory Groups, Thought Pieces
- Ongoing Security Initiatives across solutions, including:
– Hosting solutions in Tier IV data centers
– Establishing an independent Global Security Organization
- Programs such as:
– Third-Party Access (3PA) to manage the integration of third party providers into dealership systems
- The new Dealer Data Exchange (DDX):
– A new dealer-facing application that gives dealers greater visibility over data sharing.
According to recent findings from Consumer Reports, a majority of consumers whose personal data was compromised say it happened because of a breach at a bank or retail store – not an online retailer. In fact, of the millions of consumers whose data was stolen, 79% were notified by a brick-and-mortar store or financial institution*. This report illustrates the vulnerabilities inherent in the very nature of physical retail locations, which includes automotive retail.
“While our industry has so far escaped having a major public consumer data breach, we know we cannot stop moving forward and cannot do it alone,” continued Karp. “That is why we are partnering with our clients to help evolve how we all think about security – it’s all about being part of the security ecosystem.”
